Audio to feed your addiction.
This site is a collection of audio files that were originally intended for students of English as a second language to have access to extensive listening material. Since then the collection has grown and is continually growing through the donation of audio files as well as personal recordings from people from all over the world. These files, therefore, don't belong to me and so I offer them free of charge. If you access these files please don't pass them on for profit but enjoy them as they were intended to be enjoyed.
Most - if not all the material here is freely available from other online sites, yet the aim of this site is to make the same material available in a less 'backroom-under-the-counter-behind-the bicycle-shed ' manner. I hope the visitor can comfortably 'browse' the site in much the same way one would a library rather than traul through a characterless list of torrents. There is an alphabetically listed content page for those who know what they are looking for, otherwise click on a page number and browse.
I only deal with audio material that has derived from free-to-air broadcasts via analogue radio, digital radio, digital T.V or internet streaming. None of the audio files indexed by this site have been generated by the copying of a retail product.
Recent changes to the blog.
As you may be aware there has been a shortage of storage space available for the growing blog and after correspondence with Contributors there has been unanimous agreement that there be a yearly £5.40* contribution toward the upkeep of the blog regarding online storage space. I regret the need to make these implementations but the general consensus is that we'd rather keep the project going and growing than let it die. I intend for the blog to develop at the pace that a yearly contribution of £5.40* would allow. I cannot afford to fund the online storage space alone and should funds not be available I shall have to remove Files/Pages that are not so popular. I will make this decision about a year in advance of any action as this will give me enough time to juggle files and blog Pages.
The files available are divided into three Tiers:
Tier 1
Files/Pages with passwords are available to everyone and no contribution of any kind is necessary.
Tier 2
A Tier 2 Contributor is someone who has alerted me to a problem with the blog such as a faulty link, or has made a good suggestion to improve the site, or has uploaded a file or two. These contributors have indefinite access to all files marked 'currently for contributors only'.
On the 1st of June 2011 or soon after new Pages will only be accessible to 'Full Members' (Tier 3 Contributors).
Tier 3
A Tier 3 Contributor is someone who has made a £5.40* donation toward the cost of storage or has made significant file donations.
T3 Contributors will have full access to the full blog as it develops for that year. These files are marked 'currently for T3 contributors only'. This will include the RAW files. T3 Contributors will be able to request files that have been removed.
Should anyone wish to pull out or choose not to make a contribution for a year then they will be Tier 2 Contributors and retain access for their active year(s).
RAW files: The RAW files will be available to Tier 3 Contributors. They will be removed from the online storage site every 4 months or so to maintain storage space. (However, if any T3 Contributor requests a file that I have, I will make it available.)
PDF Passwords: At present the PDF Page that contain the passwords and links to the online pages give Contributors easy access to the passwords rather than jotting them down. I hope to develop the PDF page to include direct links to files and can be used independently of the blog. This may prove useful should the blog be made 'unavailable'. The PDF will be updated monthly as it is now but will play a more useful role in the future.
Contributors list and donations received: There is a list of Tier 3 Contributors (here) and the amount of funds received. This page is to show some transparency and also go someway to alleviate any notion that I am in fact operating a multi-billion pound empire from a yacht off the coast of the Cayman Islands.
Contributions should be made yearly if a contributor wishes to retain full access.
*PayPal take a 40p per £5 fee.
If any of these changes seem unclear please email me and I will explain further.
